THE ORGANISTIC ART OF THE STATE OF ALAGOAS:
A rescue of its history in the XIX AND XX centuries

Abstract: The relevance of the Organ art in the State of Alagoas dates back to a relatively recent past. Despite the lack of documents, especially ecclesiastical records, to support musicological studies, our examination of reports, chronicles, journals and few ecclesiastical documents from the 19th century has revealed the existence of four Pipe Organs in this Brazilian State, which are unknown to most scholars and musicians in Brazil. Our investigations have also revealed a rare and well-preserved Debierre-Gloton Organ in this State, where there are no effective Organ activities nowadays.
