In Search of the Identity of this Instrument.

O ÓRGÃO SETECENTISTA DE DIAMANINA:

em busca da identidade deste instrumento

abstract: After a long period of silence, the organ in the Church of Carmo in Diamantina is sounding again. This instrument built in this remote part of Minas and so far from Europe was considered by Curt Lange1 to be the most complete organ ever built in this part of the Americas. Manoel Almeida da Silva's masterpiece, it was finished in 1787 and inaugurated by the organist and composer Lobo de Mesquita. Of the organs in the churches where Lobo de Mesquita worked, this is the only one that has survived. The unveiling of the mysteries surrounding this instrument is the focus of our master's research project.
