The Brazilian organist Handel Cecilio performed last Saturday in the parish of Leiblfing and presented an exceptional program with works by Iberian and Brazilian masters. Handel Cecilio began his concert with the “Tocata de Contras Quinto Tono” by the Spanish composer José Elias. This Toccata in Pachelbel’s style, elegantly recorded in elegant Principal timbres, led the audience into an almost soft and meditative state, to the following works. Antonio Soler’s “Sonata de Clarines”, also a work of Spanish penmanship, deliberately set up a tonal contrast. In a constant dialogue sounded slightly dancing passages in contrasting timbral colors. Cecilio again used a transparent organ sound in which the character of the individual registers stood out very well. The next work by the Brazilian composer Amaral Vieira (born 1952), a personal friend of Handel Cecilio, was a national premiere in this country. The “Toccata in 3 movements” was composed in a romantic musical language reminiscent of Bach and corresponds roughly to the form of the Concerto. The interpretation Handel Cecilio’s expressive interpretation, which mainly valorized the slow and lyrical tempo as the main tempo, was lyrical tempo as the main tempo, was played in a very emotional way and once again the expressiveness once again the expressiveness of the choice of registers stood out. Händel’s “Concerto in F” was originally composed for orchestra and organ. Handel Cecilio brought a very well arranged solo version of this organ concerto, totally in the authentic style of the Baroque period. A highlight of the evening was the work composed by Handel Cecilio “Baião para Órgão”, a Brazilian suite for organ for 4 hands and 4 feet. Organist Waltraud Götz-Rigaud took the discante part. Baião, originally from Bahia, is a basic rhythm of Brazilian music from the Northeast, which emerged from the popular dance of Bahia and has a character similar to that of a slow samba. Organ music in a different way! The fiery rhythms in conjunction with accordion-like timbres and Pifaro thrilled the audience, who applauded spontaneously. Bach’s famous “Toccata in D minor” was the finale of the program. Handel Cecilio played the restless, almost moody-looking work elegantly in a secure manner giving way to quieter passages as well as dramatic sounds registering excitement. The large audience thanked the organist Handel Cecilio with prolonged applause.

As can be seen from this name, it is the combination of two completely different styles of music: the Toccata, which is preferably at home in sacred music, Bach composed many, and the Latin American Rumba dance. Korbinian Griesbauer combined these two themes with their different rhvthms masterfully with highly accurate playing technique. Brazilian the composition “Baião”, after the big city Bahia by Handel Cecilio (born 1963), played four-handed on the organ by Waltraud Götz-Rigaud and Korbinian Griesbauer.
