Baptist Music School holds free concert series in celebration of one-year anniversary
Escola Batista de Música faz série de concertos gratuitos em comemoração ao aniversário de um ano
The Baptist School of Music (EBM), the Baptist Education Network [https://redebatista.edu.br], is completing a year of foundation. To celebrate the date, the school promotes the series of concerts “Musical Nights” between 10 and 31 August. The program includes recitals by the Sarzedo Orchestra, the Ramacrisna Youth Orchestra and the Black to Black choir. There will also be a concert by the choir of the Baptist School of Music and a presentation by the students of the institution. Admission is free and open to the public.
More than aiming for results, EBM teaches that music must be made with love and purpose. Therefore, according to the director of EBM, the concertmaster and organist, Dr. Handel Cecilio, the program was developed from the desire to highlight projects that have the same vision.
One such project is the Ramacrisna Youth Orchestra, created in 2005. Aimed at children and adolescents at personal and social risk in communities located in rural areas of the city of Betim, during the series “Musical Nights”, the orchestra will bring the universe of classical music.
The Sarzedo Orchestra, created in 2009, offers free classes with qualified teachers, instruments and uniforms for more than 50 students. Conceived by conductor Joanir Oliveira and violinist Karine de Oliveira, the orchestra will present, during the “Musical Nights” series, from Beatles songs to classical pieces, including popular songs and movie themes.
The Black to Black Choir, in turn, will present a Christian repertoire. In the black music gospel style, inspired by the musical groups of American Pentecostal churches, the choir will bring authorial songs and also reinterpretations of national and international praises. With the proposal to transform lives and rescue talents often forgotten, the choir was born in 2016 with 15 members and now has more than 250 voices, as well as instrumentalists and collaborators.
To touch the mind and the heart
Formed by teachers and musicians of the school, the choir of the Baptist School of Music will bring a repertoire composed of sacred songs. “The first aspect that we take into consideration for the choice of songs is the lyrics. We always try to bring songs with lyrics that are easy to understand for the public, because we want them to touch more people’s minds and hearts. It is necessary to understand what is being sung,” explains EBM director Dr. Handel Cecilio.
The “Musical Nights” concert series will also feature an audition by EBM students. In a variety of styles, the presentations are an opportunity to showcase student performance and introduce new talent to the community.
The Baptist School of Music
Created in 2017, the Baptist School of Music is part of the Baptist Education Network and is intended for both internal and external audiences. Currently, the school offers classes in popular and classical modalities, piano, violin, sax, keyboard, guitar and guitar, electric bass, singing, children’s musicalization, percussion instruments, drums, choir and orchestral conducting. And for this semester, the school’s novelty is the ukulele course.
“We are very happy with the one-year anniversary of EBM. We have always done a job aiming at quality, focusing on the use of music as a means of social and cultural transformation of both musicians and the public that attends the presentations “, emphasizes Handel.
The director recalls that music also brings other benefits. “Neuroscience has already proven that music exercises the brain by activating connections, helping the learning of other disciplines. Thus, EBM also fulfills an educational function by contributing to the student’s better performance in academic life, in addition to bringing discipline, creating bonds, improving communication, strengthening memory and helping the emotional “, highlights Handel Cecilio.
