About the Friend of the Navy condecotarion
The “Friend of the Navy” medal and decoration is an honor awarded by the Brazilian Navy as a form of recognition and thanks to people and institutions that have provided relevant services or collaborated in a significant way with the Navy or with the promotion of the country’s maritime interests. This award is a way to strengthen the ties between civil society and the Navy, valuing those who contribute to the dissemination of maritime culture, the promotion of maritime education, support for Navy events and activities, among other initiatives relevant to the naval sector. The award of the “Friend of the Navy” medal is based on criteria established by the Brazilian Navy, which evaluates the merits and actions of the nominees. Thus, individuals or institutions that have demonstrated interest, involvement and commitment to maritime affairs can be awarded this honor. The medal can be awarded to businessmen, academics, liberal professionals, military personnel and any citizen or entity that stands out for their contributions to the benefit of the Navy or the Brazilian naval sector. It represents the official recognition of the Brazilian Navy and is a symbol of prestige and appreciation of those who dedicate their efforts to the maritime cause. The “Friend of the Navy” decoration can be awarded at public ceremonies or specific events, where the merits and achievements of those who will receive the medal are recognized. This honor reinforces the importance of the partnership between civil society and the Navy, encouraging interest and support for issues related to the sea, maritime security and national sovereignty in the seas. In summary, the “Friend of the Navy” medal and award is a way to praise and value those who, in some way, collaborate to strengthen the Brazilian Navy and promote the country’s maritime interests. It is a distinction that recognizes the commitment and engagement of these “friends” with the Brazilian maritime and naval cause.
Decoration – Friend of the Navy Medal
River Captaincy of Minas Gerais – Brazilian Navy
On Monday, November 23, 2020, one day after the Musician’s day, I had the honor of being awarded the “Navy Friend Medal”. The ceremony was promoted by the Fluvial Captaincy of Minas Gerais, in its recently opened operational headquarters in the capital of Minas Gerais, commanded by the first Captain of the Ports of Minas Gerais, Captain of Mar e Guerra, Nicácio Satiro de Araújo. There were moments of great joy and meaning, with precious friends, in a very pleasant environment.
The Friend of the Navy Medal was created in August 1966, to reward civilian personalities, without a functional link with the Brazilian Navy, soldiers from other forces, as well as institutions that have distinguished themselves in the work of spreading the maritime mentality, in the relationship with the Navy, in the defense of interests related to the Navy and in the dissemination of the importance of the sea for the country.
Receiving this honor by the Brazilian Navy, one of the branches of the Armed Forces of Brazil (also composed by the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force), in recognition of my work as a musician, and for the friendship and coexistence with the Fluvial Captaincy of Minas Gerais since its foundation on December 5, 2018, has great significance for me. This receiving “Medal Amigo da Marinha” at this ceremony was a very significant and exciting moment in my life. I thank the musician friends who very kindly accepted to participate in this event: Santiago Tostes (piano) and Annelise Cavalcanti (soprano). I am also grateful to everyone in this Captaincy for their friendship, for their kindness and warmth as we are always received. Especially to friends Captain of Sea and War, Nicácio Satiro de Araújo, Admiral Flávio Augusto Viana Rocha (Secretariat for Strategic Affairs), Captain-Lieutenant Luciano Ivan Corrêa Duro.
